Spring of 2008 saw the return of the "one in fifty years’ severe frost to many vineyards, followed by the strong roaring forties trade winds during flowering. These events limited yields across the state, particularly with Pinot Noir. A cool summer and autumn let the moderate crops ripen slowly, intensifying flavour concentration and colour in the red varieties. Small berries meant a higher skin to juice ratio than normal, resulting in wines with slightly more texture and structure.
