This wine is intermediate in sugar level between Wellington Riesling and Iced Riesling. It is our attempt to produce a wine in the style of some German Kabinett Rieslings from the Mosel region, eg. Dr. Loosen, which are delightfully fruity in flavour, with obvious sweetness balanced by very fresh, zippy acidity.
The essential feature in the production of “FGR” is that the fermentation is actively stopped well before all of the sugar has been converted to alcohol. In fact, about forty grams of residual sugar remain in the wine, hence one version of the name – “forty grams residual”, the other being “frightfully good Riesling”.
The low alcohol makes this wine a light, easy-to-drink style suitable for afternoon sipping on its own or with fruit or hors’d’oeuvres
Bouquet: Light floral and citrus flavours from the Riesling fruit, with some “diesel” nuances reminiscent of similar wines made in Germany.
Palate: The palate is fresh and fruity, with the obvious sugar and acidity combining to provide a lively, sherbet-like raciness. The low alcohol level adds to the lightness of the wine.
