We are now towards the end of the 2012 vintage and it is possible to assess the quality of the wines.

This year the yield was quite low in the Coal River Valley, 30 to 50% lower than average and with the beautiful warm weather we had in March and April the grapes maturation was 3 weeks earlier than normal. We did not have any real disease pressure in the vineyard and the fruits were extremely clean and exempt of alterations.

The whites are fruity, well balanced with a good acid structure and nice aromatic components. With a low crop the reds are very concentrated with a great tannin structure, rich and full with some vibrant red colour. The volume of this vintage will be low but the potential in quality and ageing will be terrific.

Not everything happens slowly in Tasmania; in Ten short years we've released a bunch of cracking wines, an easy task when you own some of the best cool-climate vines in Australia. Though to make merry our double digit milestone Frogmore Creek is launching a trio of wines that ...transced all others, which we've called Evermore.

Have you ever wondered what the end result would be from co-fermenting Pinot Noir with Pinot Gris, Chardonnay or even Gewürztraminer? Or have you perhaps speculated the flavours of Pinot made from bunches left for 2 weeks on their cut cordon out in the vineyard? Now imagine a wine blended from these Frankenstein parts, along with batches put through maceration carbonique, indigenous yeast ferment, extended cold soaking and others. If that little exercise does not float your boat to Frogmore then how about fantasising over a Riesling fermented on skins and then matured in oak? If these wines sound slightly outrageous then maybe you need a glass of Australia`s most southern Blanc de Noir to loosen up a bit first

The Evermore range is available at Cellar Door and via the website.

Meadowbank Estate’s award winning restaurant, wedding & function centre will continue to be run under the expert management of the Meadowbank hospitality team and will also become the home of Frogmore Creek Wines. Frogmore Creek produce and sells the Frogmore Creek, 42 Degrees South and Storm Bay brands and now will also add the much awarded Meadowbank brand to it’s ultra-premium portfolio.

“This is a terrific acquisition for Frogmore as Meadowbank’s focus has been predominately on sales through its award winning restaurant, cellar door and functions business and are a perfect complement to Frogmore’s broader Tasmanian, national distribution & export sales. There is also virtually no redundant product overlap in the Meadowbank product and service offerings, which will in turn fit seamlessly into our existing business” according to Frogmore Creeks General Manager, James Skabo.

The move will give Meadowbank the in-house expertise of Frogmore Creek’s professional wine and viticultural teams lead by Senior Winemaker Alain Rousseau and Frogmore Creek Wines will gain the professional hospitality expertise within Meadowbank. Frogmore Creek will add Meadowbanks Cambridge vineyard to its existing vineyard portfolio which includes the original Frogmore Creek vineyard (Penna) and it’s Campania vineyard which was acquired in May 2009.

“We feel this is a perfect fit. We have been neighbours for years and it has been where we have always taken visiting friends and associates. It is where we gather for a business lunch. We are extremely excited about the opportunity this provides to showcase Coal River Valley food and wines in this unique setting. My vision or dream is that this expansion allows us to develop into one of Australia’s iconic food and wine businesses – we are thinking generationally here not short term. ” said Co-owner and Director of Frogmore Creek Wines, Tony Scherer today

Our Frogmore Creek 2008 Iced Riesling won a trophy in the class of best sweet wine in show. With around 1450 entries in this class we are extremely proud of this result. The trophies awarded are a reflection of the unique sensibilities of the Asian palate and number just 31 in total throughout the entire show.

Frogmore Creek has been presented with the 2010 Tasmanian Export Award in the category of Emerging Exporter sponsored by the Australian Goverment AusIndustry.

The Tasmanian Export Awards recognise excellence in exporting by Tasmanian enterprises and are acknowledged as one of Tasmania’s prestigious industry awards.

This award comes as an additional win over last years Tasmanian Export Awards where we were presented the Agribusiness Award sponsored by Tasports.

The awards ceremony was held at the Launceston Country Club on October 8th.

Frogmore Creek becomes the 500th voluntary perpetual covenant

Tony Scherer (owner Frogmore Creek Wines), John Harkin and Minister O'Byrne (photo by Simon de Salis, DPIPWE) John Harkin opened the day with a short speech that gave background to the 500th...

John Harkin opened the day with a short speech that gave background to the 500th registration and highlighted the fact that there is now more than 1% of Tasmania’s land area under perpetual, voluntary conservation covenant - that is 68,100 hectares of private land perpetually protected for conservation.

Tony entertained the assembled group with reflections on his youth growing up in the late 1940s and 50s on a farm just out of Los Angeles in the USA In an area of 1,500 hectares there were few farms. All with wide open spaces, involved in what he termed “truck farming”.

Minister O’Byrne spoke of how the PLCP is working with other organisations to ensure that the private reserve system grows in a strategic and coordinated way, and ensuring that the landowners involved have the wherewithal to carry out the best conservation management possible.

Tony has been involved in conservation initiatives on Frogmore for more than ten years. As the property with Tasmania’s only known wild population of Hardenbergia violaceae, he has worked closely with DPIPWE to protect the plants by caging them, they are now also in the reserve area.

The morning was concluded with morning tea and a walk out to the caged Hardenbergia.
