The Roaring 40s range of wines is intended to be “ready to drink”, fruit driven and affordable. The wines are blended from several Tasmanian vineyards to have clear and characteristic varietal flavours. Additional winemaking inputs, particularly wood, are used sparingly, if at all in order to provide some complexity without compromising primary fruit flavours.
The 2006 Rosé is the first wine of this style that we have produced. It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (25%) and Pinot Noir (25%), sourced from the Coal River Valley in SE Tasmania. The fruit was destemmed and partially crushed, left on skins overnight, lightly pressed and then fermented and finished in the same way as most unwooded white wines.
It is intended to be consumed as a young wine while the fruit flavours remain fresh and vibrant. Apart from being a refreshing drink in its own right, will complement a wide range of al fresco foods over the coming summer. The wine should be chilled on warm days.
Colour: Pale, but vibrant magenta pink.
Bouquet: The flavour of this wine is very much “fruit-driven” with a complex of delicate red berry and floral flavours being contributed by the three varieties in the blend.
Palate: The palate is dry, crisp and refreshing. Tannic astringency, which may have come from the two Bordeaux varieties, has been kept to a minimum by the gentle processing technique, while the Pinot provides silkiness and palate length.
Ageing potential: Intended for early consumption.
